At one time or another, we’ve all had a coworker that got underneath our skin. The unfortunate part about these situations is that it always affects your work – whether you are working on a project with the offender – or if they’re just an interruption during your day.

But when we’re talking about the 3 P’s, we’re not talking about Punch, Punch and Punch! No, it’s something else. Only a few people are born with unlimited supply of patience, but patience is actually something you can practice and make perfect. One way to train your patience when dealing with irritating people is by think of them as a small child. Think of them like your mischievous nephew who kept running and screaming on your family reunion and spilling stuffs. Or that sweet niece who keeps asking questions over and over again. Just like a small child, your irritating co-workers don’t know any better, so be patient with them.


No matter how your co-worker has boiled your blood, always remember that you are in a professional work environment. Yelling at them and punching them in the face won’t solve your problem; it will only make matters worse.


If you are not working directly with this co-worker, do your best to avoid them. For example, don’t go to the pantry at the time when they usually have their coffee. Not having a professional email address

It might have been fun to have the email address of in your younger years, but now it is time to find an email address that is more business appropriate. The best email address is to use your own name in some format of first name or initial and last name.

Not including school internships

Long-term academic projects can be valuable experiences to include on your resume. For example, doing a month long research project during your schools “I-Term”. Assisting a professor with data analysis for his research project or being part of your university’s yearly fund raising endeavors are significant events to include on your resume.

Using fancy fonts and formatting

Unless you are submitting an excellently-designed creative infographic resume, your standard Word resume should be easy to read and follow for anyone. Script or fancy fonts don’t give a professional look. Too much formatting (italics, bold, caps, mixing fonts) will only distract (not add) to the ability to easily read your resume. Pick a universal font like Times New Roman, Times, or Palatino.

Not filling the entire page

Resumes should fill an entire page. A half-page resume doesn’t say much about you. Start planning your work experience early in college so you have something to write about. If your work experience is lean, make your margins bigger and font a little larger, but never larger than 12 point.
